Security alert in Lurgan over

A security alert in Lurgan that caused the closure of the railway line between Portadown and Lisburn has ended.

A police spokesperson said that "nothing untoward" was found following a search of the area.

The railway line however has rmained closed and several early morning trains were cancelled after reports of the discovery of a suspicious object in the area of Lake Street and William Street in the town.

A bus substitution service has been put into operation for passengers.

Violence Follows Arrests
There has been a weekend of street trouble in parts of Co Armagh. Late last night, motorists were urged to avoid the Drumbeg area of Craigavon after two cars were hijacked then set on fire. The vehicles were set alight on the Tullygally Road and a small crowd who gathered eventually dispersed.

Coleraine To L'Derry Railway Line To Be Upgraded
Babcock and McLaughlin & Harvey have scooped the contracts to complete re-signalling works and a passing loop on the Coleraine to L'Derry railway line. Babcock will deliver the signalling scheme and McLaughlin & Harvey will build the passing loop at Bellarena.

L'Derry To Coleraine Railway Line Opens
SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has welcomed the reopening today of the new railway line between Derry and Coleraine, with scheduled services resuming on Sunday.

Consultation paper launched on railway line closure
The Department for Regional Development has issued an Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) consultation paper on the proposed discontinuance of the Antrim to Knockmore railway line. Commenting on the paper DRD Minister Gregory Campbell, said: "The consultation process will remain open for a period of 12 weeks.

Security Alert In Lurgan Ends
A security alert in Lurgan has now ended. The alert came into force following a report that several explosive devices had been left in the Lake Street area on Thursday, 02 August. The railway line was forced to close during the alert. Nothing suspicious has been found and the trains are now back on.
