Teens threatened over McIlveen murder
Police have revealed that threats have been made against the teenagers charged with the murder of Ballymena schoolboy Michael McIlveen last weekend.
Police confirmed details of the threats during a hearing at in Coleraine Magistrates Court, where a 15-year-old boy appeared charged with the murder and a 16-year-old also appeared in court charged with affray.
Ballymena police commander Terry Shevlin opposed bail for the teenagers saying that it would be impossible to guarantee their safety once released into the community.
Mr Shevlin also revealed that 12 families had been notified about possible threats and added that tensions were very high in the town, and that police intelligence indicated fears of street riots and possible reprisals.
The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were remanded to appear in Ballymena Magistrates court via video link on June 8, alongside five other teenagers who have already been charged with the murder.
15-year-old Michael McIlveen, died in hospital last Monday, after being severely beaten by a gang in the early hours of Sunday morning, in what is believed to have been a sectarian attack.
Police say they believe that a number of witnesses have still to come forward and have appealed for anyone who may have been in the car park of the IMC cinema between 11.30pm on Saturday May 6 and 1am on Sunday May 7, and may have witnessed anything in connection to the murder, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Five teenagers remanded over schoolboy's murder
Five teenagers have been remanded in custody following an appearance in court today charged with the murder of a 15-year-old Ballymena schoolboy Michael McIlveen at the weekend. The court heard that Christopher Kerr, 19, of Carnduff Drive and Arron Wallace, 18, of Moat Road had replied "not guilty" when charged.

He is being treated in hospital and is to be questioned by the PSNI in due course.
