Five teenagers remanded over schoolboy's murder

Five teenagers have been remanded in custody following an appearance in court today charged with the murder of a 15-year-old Ballymena schoolboy Michael McIlveen at the weekend.

The court heard that Christopher Kerr, 19, of Carnduff Drive and Arron Wallace, 18, of Moat Road had replied "not guilty" when charged. One of the other co-defendants aged 15, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denied the charge. Two 17-year-old co-defendants made no reply.

All five were remanded in custody to appear next month.

Two other juveniles have also been arrested and are currently being questioned by police.

Michael McIlveen, 15, died in hospital on Monday, after being beaten by a gang in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Last night, family and friends held a candlelit vigil outside his home and flowers were laid in memory of the teenager.
