Balmoral Show gets underway in Belfast

Northern Ireland's most prestigious agricultural show has got underway today at the King's Hall in Belfast.

Over 70,000 visitors are expected to attend the 138th Balmoral Show, which plays host to one of the most highly acclaimed livestock competitions in Ireland, trade exhibitions and international show-jumping.

The show, which focuses on Northern Ireland's agricultural sector, will last for three days and is the first to be held in the province since the European Beef Ban was lifted last week.

Highlights of the opening day include a sheep shearing competition, a pork pig championship and falconry display.

Over 85 exhibitors from as far away as North America, will feature at this years show, alongside some of the finest local produce from the Balmoral Farmers. Market.

The Royal Ulster Agricultural Society, who are responsible for the organisation of the show, believe that the main family attractions will be the Children's Farm, which gives youngsters hands on experience with farm animals.
