Roads Service to invest £3m in Cookstown
The Roads Service have revealed that they are to give a capital and maintenance investment totalling £3 million, to Cookstown over the next year.
The scheme is to include the widening of the road and footway/cycleway provision project on the Westland Road as well as Collision Remedial schemes at Flo Road and Moneymore Road, in the town.
Speaking to Cookstown District Council, Divisional Roads Manager Mr Pat Doherty, said: “Most road users appreciate that making this sort of improvement can’t be done without some disruption to traffic. But Roads Service is making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum by completing as many major schemes as possible during the summer months when there is generally less traffic and contractors can take advantage of daylight hours and, where possible, by avoiding peak traffic times."
Approximately £166 million has also been allocated to Roads Structural Maintenance in the three years to 2007/08.
Mr Doherty added that in the Cookstown area, the spend on defect repairs, street lighting, grass cutting, winter service and other safety related activities would be maintained at present levels.
