Man released pending inquiries in connection with body find

The man arrested in connection with the discovery of a body in a north Belfast park yesterday morning, has been released pending futher inquiries.

It has also been confirmed that the body, which was found in the back seat of a burnt out car, at the Cavehill Country Park on the Upper Hightown Road, at around 6am yesterday, was that of a young man.

A post mortem examination is to be carried out tomorrow.

A second man, who is believed to be connected to the incident, is in a critical condition in hospital. His injuries are said to be linked to the discovery of the body.

It has been reported that police do not believe that the burnt out car was stolen.

The surrounding area, between the Upper Hightown Road and the Crumlin Road was sealed off for some time while a forensic investigation of the scene was carried out, however a police spokeswoman has confirmed that the investigation of the area has been completed and the park has now been reopened.

Bomb Planted Under Police Officer's Car
Police have launched an investigation following the attempted murder of a police officer in east Belfast. A serving officer detected a suspicious object under his vehicle when parked at Shandon Park on Saturday afternoon, 01 June. ATO were called to the scene and the device was declared a viable explosive.
