EU funding to be examined at seminar
The future of EU Structural Funds spending in Northern Ireland will come under the spotlight at a major seminar in Belfast on Monday April 24.
Organised by the European Commission Office, the seminar will also look at the continuation of the EU funded Peace programme after 2006 and EU plans for replacing the INTERREG cross-border development programme.
Eddie McVeigh, Head of the European Commission Office said: “This consultation is hugely important for Northern Ireland as it is the first stage in the process of developing EU programmes for the period 2007-2013. Northern Ireland will continue to benefit from EU Structural Funds and I would encourage interested parties to have their say on the development of the new programmes.”
Earlier this year the Government launched a wide-ranging consultation to identify the UK’s strategic priorities for EU Structural Funds spending across the UK, for the period 2007 to 2013.
This includes a Northern Ireland chapter with proposals to boost innovation and enterprise and sustainable jobs.
The whole of Northern Ireland will be eligible for EU funding under what is to be known as the Competitiveness and Employment Objective.
The seminar is being held at the Stormont Hotel in Belfast on Monday April 24.
To register for the seminar or for more information, contact the European Commission Office on 028 9024 0708.
