Security Alert in Banbridge declared a hoax

Police have revealed that a security alert in Banbridge town centre, County Down has been declared a hoax.

Army Technical Officers were called to the area after a suspicious package was discovered in the Townsend Street area of the town.

The area was cordoned off between Kenliss Street and Rathfriland Street for around two-hours this afternoon and motorists were diverted from the area.

The army bomb experts examined the device and declared it a hoax at around 3.30pm.

A suspicious object at the centre of a Portadown security alert has been declared a hoax. Shortly after 8.45pm on Tuesday, 30 July, police received a report of a suspicious object in the Upper Church Lane area. Emergency service responded and sealed the area, evacuating local residents and closing a number of roads.
