Weekend robberies may be linked

Police have appealed for information following a number of armed robberies at the weekend.

In the first incident, a man, armed with a knife, entered a butchers shop on the Springfield Road in west Belfast at around 4pm on Saturday and threatened staff.

He ordered them to hand over a substantial sum of cash, before making off in a blue coloured estate car.

Around 15 minutes later, at approximately 4.15pm, a man, carrying a large knife, entered a pharmacy on the Whiterock Road and made off with cash in the direction of the Falls Road.

The assailant is said to have be wearing a waist-length, dark coloured jacket, with the collar pulled up around his face and a beanie hat.

Some time later, at around 7.15pm, there was an attempted robbery in a newsagents shop in Lisburn.

Two men, armed with a knife and a gun, entered the shop on Milltown Avenue and demanded cash.

The staff refused to hand it over and a scuffle broke out.

No one was injured during the incident and the robbers made off empty handed.

Police believe that these incidents may be linked and have asked for anyone who may have any information on either incident, to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
