Two arrested in connection with Derry hammer attack
Two men have been arrested in connection with an attack on a man in Londonderry yesterday evening.
The victim is reported to have been beaten with hammers and a crowbar in a busy shopping centre in the city at around 6.30pm.
Dozens of shoppers in the Foyleside Centre witnessed the attack, and the man was taken to hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.
Foyleside Shopping Centre Manager Des Farrell today said that it was an appalling incident, however it was fortunate for the victim that security staff were on hand.
He added that the staff were able to administer first aid and call an ambulance, which ensured that the man received treatment within minutes.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder
A man arrested in connection with a murder in Lurgan on Sunday, 06 August, has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The body of a man, aged 45, was discovered at a flat on Victoria Street. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. A man, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. Two other men were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Man Arrested Following Incident At House In Coleraine
A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident at a house in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. It happened at a property on Knockantern Grove in the Mountsandel area on Tuesday, 16 August. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of possessing of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an offence and assault on police.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died from his injuries after being assaulted in Coleraine. Mark Lamont, 54, was seriously injured after he was attacked outside a house on the Ballycastle Road in September. He died in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast on Tuesday, 11 October.
