Belfast men escape from County Donegal court
Two Belfast men have escaped from Garda custody in County Donegal during a court appearance.
The men were brought before Letterkenny Court on charges of theft yesterday morning and managed to escape from the court during a brief adjournment.
John Quinn, 48, from Cavanmore Gardens and 34-year-old Joseph McQuade from Ross Street, were arrested on Monday over the theft of cash from the Bridgend Hotel in 2005.
It is understood that when arrested, the pair had both pleaded guilty to the charges.
After the brief court adjournment, the defendants indicated to gardai that they were intending to return to the courtroom, however they then ran out through the front door.
It has been reported that a pregnant woman held the automatic doors open for the men allowing them to escape.
The judge criticised gardai for their lax in security and said that he could not issue a warrant for the men's arrest as the men were not on bail.
