Carrickfergus pensioner robbed by bogus callers

Police have appealed for information following the robbery of a pensioner in County Antrim yesterday afternoon.

A man posing as a Housing Executive worker talked his way into the 82-year-old woman's home in Rosebrook Grove area of Carrickfergus at around 3.30pm yesterday.

While the caller distracted the woman, a second man ransacked the house before taking an undisclosed sum of money from her purse.

The woman was not injured during the incident, however she was left badly shaken by the ordeal.

One of the men is described as being in his late teens to early 20's, around 6 feet tall, with pale skin, shaven hair and a light coloured moustache. He was wearing a white shirt, a dark coloured tank top, and blue jeans and it is understood that he spoke with a southern accent.

There was no description given for the second man.

Police in Carrickfergus have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or noticed anything suspicious in the area, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
