Man in serious condition after Portrush fire
A 39-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after being injured during a fire at his flat in Portrush.
It is understood that the man suffered extensive burns to his lower body and was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.
Three fire crews arrived to tackle the blaze in Princess Street on Saturday night, after being alerted by the resident of a neighbouring flat.
Fire fighters rescued the man from the smoke filled, first floor flat and he was taken to Coleraine Hospital, but was later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
Another man, aged 47, was rescued from the flat above and was treated at the scene for the effects of breathing in smoke.
Police are said to be investigating the cause of the fire, however it is believed to have been started accidentally and may have been caused by a cigarette.
In a separate incident in the early hours of this morning, a 22-year-old man was rescued from a fire in a flat in Londonderry.
The fire services were called to the blaze at Bay View Terrace off the Strand Road area of the city, at around 6.30am.
The man was treated at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation, however his condition is not thought to be serious.
It is understood that the fire may have started in a chip pan.
