30,000 jobs could be cut in Northern Ireland
Around 30,000 jobs could be lost from Northern Ireland companies if the government's plan to make them pay taxes is implemented.
The Northern Ireland Manufacturing Focus Group today revealed plans to hold a rally in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast, protesting against the decision to phase out industrial de-rating.
The lobby group also announced their plans to bus in around 1,000 people into Belfast to register their opposition to the proposal.
The spokesman for the NIMFG, Basil McCrea, today claimed that this is the biggest crisis to hit the industrial sector in Northern Ireland over the past ten years.
He added: "Our estimates show that 30,000 jobs are at risk and it is going to wipe out all the gains that have been made over the last 10 years."
Local businesses have been exempt from paying rates until last year when they received bills asking for 15% of their full rate liability. This set to increase next month to a quarter of the full rates bill for their property.
The NIMFG have today said that if the these plans go ahead, then the profits made by companies will be greatly effected and as a result, it would have a damaging impact in their ability to invest in their workforce, thus being forced to make redundancies.

Over £1m Secured For Early Years Fund
Over £1 million in funding has been secured for the Early Years Fund. The Fund, which supports 153 early years organisations across Northern Ireland, will use the funding to ensure current services continue until March 2016. Education Minister John O'Dowd confirmed £1.1m in funding.
