Six-year-old escapes injury after north Belfast hi-jacking
A six year-old girl has been left badly shaken after car thieves ordered her out of her father's car before stealing it last night.
The girl was waiting in the blue Mazda 626 outside a shop on the Cliftonville Road in north Belfast, at around 8.30pm, when the incident happened.
The men got into the car, after its owner, Joe Rocks went into the shop.
When he returned, he found his six-year-old daughter, Caitlin, standing barefoot on the pavement.
Mr Rocks said that he saw the car taking off at high speed as he left the shop, but was relieved when he saw his daughter had not been harmed.
He also added that the only reason the child had remained in the car was that it was cold and she had not been wearing any shoes.
The car has since been recovered.
Police in north Belfast have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the car-jacking, or may have any information which may be of use to tracking down those responsible, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
