Dolphins found dead in County Down
Two dolphins rescued after beaching in County Down on Friday, have died.
The mammals were spotted swimming close to the shore on Friday afternoon by a local resident and were later found beached on the shores of Carlingford Lough.
Staff from the Environment and Heritage Service, and the Exploris Aquarium at Portaferry working together managed to get the animals back into deeper water.
However, on Saturday, one of the animals was found dead near Killowen having rebeached and the other was found later on the other side of the lough, near Omeath.
The remains of the dolphins have been removed by the Environment and Heritage Department of the DOE for a post mortem examination.
The EHS have said that the striped dolphins were an open sea species and it was very rare for such animals to swim into inland waters.

Horses Saved From Horrific Farm Conditions
A shocking find on a farm just a few miles from Belfast has seen more than 60 animals rescued while nine were past hope and were found dead. The horses and ponies were discovered a week ago in squalid conditions by a vet at the premises on the Lisnevenagh Road, Antrim where police found the animals living amongst the carcasses of nine dead animals.

PSNI Names Woman Found Dead In East Belfast
A woman found dead at a house in east Belfast on Wednesday, 15 May, has been named by the PSNI as Kathryn 'Kat' Parton. A murder investigation has been launched into the death after Kathryn's body was discovered in a house in the Madrid Street area. The 34-year-old had suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
