Taxi driver threatened at gun point
Police are investigating an incident during which a taxi driver was threatened at gun point in the Ligoniel area of north Belfast.
One of four men picked up by the taxi on the Crumlin Road produced what is believed to have been a small handgun, pressed it to the neck of the driver, and attempted to fire it.
A struggle ensued and the driver managed to escape from the vehicle.
The four men then fled the scene.
It is reported that the attack has been claimed by the Red Hand Defenders, a cover name for UDA and LVF.
Police have appealed for anyone with information on the attack to contact them.

A test for new taxi drivers is to be introduced later this week, it has been announced. From 31 October, new taxi drivers will be required to pass a Taxi Driver Theory and Practical Driving Test, the DOE has said. The test will affect new entrants to the industry.

New Taxi Regulations Outlined
From January next year, taxi customers will be able to hail all cabs, black or otherwise, in the street, rather than having to secure a booking beforehand. The news comes as Environment Minister Mark H Durkan outlines the timescales for new legislation affecting taxis to be brought in.
