Police appeal following north Belfast hijacking
Minor disturbances have erupted in north Belfast close to the bar where 17 men were arrested last night.
At around 10.30am today, a bin lorry was hijacked and burnt out in the Hanna Street area of the city. Hijackers forced two council workers out of the lorry before setting the cab alight. The two men were uninjured in the attack, however they were left badly shaken by their ordeal.
A short time earlier, hijackers made attempted to seize a passing taxi. The car was in the Glenrosa Link area of the town when the attack happened. The driver managed to escape from the area before his vehicle was taken. He was uninjured during the incident, but was left badly shaken.
Police in north Belfast have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed either incident to contact them on 0800 555 111, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0845 600 8000.

A lorry driver was threatened at gunpoint and assaulted yesterday when a large quantity of cigarettes was stolen during a hi-jacking in north Belfast. The 26-year-old man had completed a delivery to a 'Spar' supermarket on the Antrim Road around 1.30pm when he was confronted by an armed hijacker.

Police in north Belfast have appealed for information following a hijacking incident in the lower Shankill area yesterday evening. The incident happened at around 5.30pm when a woman, aged in her 20s, was returning to her car which was parked on the junction of Dayton Road and Townsend Street.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed during a car hijacking in Co Antrim on Tuesday. The incident occurred at the Kingsway Complex in Dunmurry at around 10pm. The man was getting into his vehicle when he was approached by another man who demanded his keys.

The incident happened in Downview Park West on Wednesday, 11 October, at around 4am. A PSNI spokesperson said: "The woman stopped her vehicle and was threatened by one of the men, who was armed with a knife.
