Amazon.com To Create Up To 450 Jobs In Cork
Amazon.com, one of the largest online retailers in the world, is to establish a new Multi-lingual Customer Services Centre in Cork. Supported by IDA Ireland, the investment will create up to 450 positions in Cork, and will provide support for the company’s UK and French web sites.
In addition, this new facility will offer additional support for the company’s German web site during peak periods.
Amazon, headquartered in Seattle, Washington, USA, is one of the largest online retailers in the world, with revenues of more than $8.4 billion in 2005. The company sells a wide variety of consumer products such as CDs, DVDs, videos, books, electronic devices, cellular phones, clothing, accessories, toys, computer equipment, health products, tools, kitchenware, and home furnishings.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment Micheál Martin, said: “Just one year ago, we had the pleasure of announcing Amazon’s decision to locate in Ireland, when they opened their Systems and Networks and Operating Centre at the Digital Hub in Dublin. We hoped that the company, having experienced first hand what Ireland has to offer the most advanced technology companies in the world, would decide to invest further in Ireland and today’s announcement is the realisation of that hope”.
The Cork Multi-lingual Customer Services Operation will be established at the Airport Business Park. It will primarily serve customers of Amazon’s UK and French sites with voice and email enabled support services, and will also support its existing German customer service capabilities during peak times.
