PSNI Assistant Chief Constable named
The Northern Ireland Policing Board has announced the appointment of the new PSNI Assistant Chief Constable.
Chief Superintendent Drew Harris, 40, will take over the position from retiring ACC Sam Kincaid.
Mr Harris is currently serving as Craigavon District Commander and has been a member of the police force for 22 years.
Chairman of the Policing Board, Sir Desmond Rea today announced the appointment, adding that it was an important Policing Board responsibility.
He said: "The Policing Board is confident that Mr Harris has the necessary skills and ability to join the Chief Constable and his Senior Officer team and build on the progress that has been made in policing to date.
"The Board is responsible for securing an effective, efficient and impartial police service for all the people of Northern Ireland which has the confidence of the whole community. A strong and committed management team is therefore essential and ACC Harris will bring his own knowledge and experience to the team."
The Chairman also took the opportunity to congratulate Mr Harris on his achievement and welcomed him to his new position.
Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde welcomed the new member of his team. He said:
"Assistant Chief Constable Harris brings a wealth of experience with him and I have no doubt he will be an invaluable member of the Senior Officer team."
ACC Harris will be responsible for the Criminal Justice Department, taking over the post from ACC Judith Gillespie who will now be responsible for Rural Region.
ACC Peter Sheridan, who was ACC for Rural Region, will now head up Crime Operations.
Sir Hugh concluded by saying that he has absolute confidence that the Senior Officers have the necessary expertise and experience to lead the PSNI and ensure that the community continues to receive a first class policing service.
