Takeda Chemical Industries To Invest In Ireland

Mary Harney, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment has confirmed that following its announcement in Japan in March Takeda Chemical Industries is to undertake a major new investment in Ireland. It has completed discussions with IDA Ireland and is to establish a pharmaceutical plant in Clondalkin, County Dublin. This will be Takeda's first bulk pharmaceuticals plant to be constructed outside Japan.

Confirming details of the new project at an IDA reception in Clondalkin, the Tánaiste said: "Approximately €80 million will be invested in the construction on a 20 acre site of a state of the art bulk pharmaceutical facility. Work will get underway as soon as the planning process is finalised and the facility will take about 18 months to complete. The plant will employ over 60 people upon completion."

The Tánaiste continued: "This is another significant and important investment from a leading company in Japan and will highlight Ireland as a key location for other such Japanese investors in the future. This is the second significant investment in Ireland by Takeda in recent years and is further indication of the company's commitment to Ireland. This new pharmaceutical plant is the first bulk pharmaceuticals facility to be constructed by Takeda outside Japan. Today's decision reflects well on the skills and dedication of the whole Takeda team in Bray and is a great credit to them that such a major new development has located in Ireland."

Takeda is expected to employ a range of employees with skills mainly in the management, R&D, engineering and production areas.

Around three-quarters of all employees will be graduates.
