Staff threatened in armed robbery in South Belfast
Police have appealed for information following an armed robbery in South Belfast last night.
Two men, one armed with a handgun, entered an off-licence on the Upper Lisburn Road at around 8.25pm. The robbers approached members of staff and forced them to hand over an undisclosed sum of money before making their escape.
Staff in the shop were uninjured in the attack but were left badly shaken by their ordeal.
The two men are described as being in their 30's and one is said to have a shaved head.
Sinn Fein representative for the Balmoral area, Stiofan Long, has today hit out at those responsible for the robbery.
He said: "The actions of these men are completely reprehensible. Their actions undoubtedly have caused great stress and trauma for the staff who were victims in this.
"Unfortunately, crimes involving firearms, whether real or imitation, are becoming all to common."
Mr Long concluded by saying that those who carry out such do so without any care for those they may hurt in the process, and have no regard for the wider community.
