Man remanded over McKay murder

A Belfast man has been remanded in custody following an appearance in Belfast Magistrates Court charged with murder of his cousin 21-year-old Brendan McKay.

Gavin Maguire, 21, from Gransha Green, expressed remores over the killing and denied intent to kill when interviewed by police.

A detective told the court that he believed he could connect the accused to the charge.

Mr McKay, from Downfine Gardens in the Springfield Road area of the city, died after receiving a fatal stab wound on Sunday evening.

Police have arrested a 25-year-old man in on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident on the Limestone Road in north Belfast on Friday night. A 25-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries sustained during the attack, in which a number of people are believed to have been involved.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the stabbing of a 66-year-old man in east Belfast on Tuesday afternoon. The attack occurred at Wolsey's tackle shop on the Upper Newtownards Road at about 15:30.
