West Belfast secures jobs through unique programme

This unique six week programme covers all aspects of starting a career in a call centre.

It offers free training in the following areas: Call Centre Awareness, Telephone Techniques, IT & Computer Skills, Communication, Workskills, Team Work, Personal Effectiveness and Assertiveness.

During the six weeks there are site visits to four leading call centres, an opportunity to observe the ‘Call Centre Agents’ at work and voice any questions or queries.

This programme ended in November 2005 and resulted in nine unemployed people from West Belfast entering employment the following week in HCL Technologies, Boucher Road.

The participants did not have to attend an interview and it was based on good performance throughout the training. The trainees ranged in age from late teens to forties, their barriers to employment also ranged and included: long-term unemployed, lone parent, women returnees, ex-offender, persons with a disability and no qualifications or experience.

The Job Assist Centre provides people with the opportunity to realise their dreams through career mentoring and support that is completely voluntary.

Because community development is at its core, it delivers whenever, however and wherever people are most comfortable.
