Police recover £750,000 worth of cigarettes in Lisburn

Police in Lisburn have recovered a quantity of cigarettes worth around £750,000 following the hijacking of a van at around 8.30am this morning.

The delivery van was travelling in the Mount Eagles area of the city when three men, one of whom was armed, approached the van driver and co-driver.

The assailants ordered the men to drive their van into a laneway close to the Barnfield Road, where they proceeded to load the cigarettes into a Renault van.

This van was later recovered in the Collingrove area, still containing the hijacked contents of the first van.

The delivery driver and his colleague were uninjured in the incident, but were badly shaken.

Detectives have asked or anyone who may have witnessed anything to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Cigarettes stolen in daylight raid
Police are appealing for information following a robbery in Newtownabbey yesterday. The incident occurred at around lunchtime when a man stepped in front of a delivery van at Corrs corner forcing the driver to stop. He then boarded the van and ordered the driver to proceed to the Ballyearl Road in Glengormley.

Post Office Van Driver Hijacked In West Belfast
A post office van driver has been hijacked and threatened with a knife in west Belfast. The vehicle was stolen in Ross Road on Tuesday which was later found abandoned in the Valleyside Close area. A security alert was launched and the part of the Springfield Road was closed on Wednesday, however it has since been re-opened.
