Coffee shop manager beaten in robbery

The manager of a South Belfast coffee shop has been severely beaten during a robbery yesterday afternoon.

The robber, who is was armed with a knife, left the man unconscious in an upstairs office of the shop, before making off with a substantial amount of money, estimated to be around £10,000.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for head injuries.

The coffee shop was being run as a fundraiser for a church in Belfast.

Police described the robber as described as being of stocky build and 5ft 11ins tall.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 0800 600 8000.

Businesses Damaged By Blaze In Portstewart
An investigation has launched after a number of businesses were damaged by a blaze in The Diamond in Portstewart. The alarm was raised at 5am on Monday, however fire crews were called back at around 9.30am. A chip shop, coffee shop and hairdressers were damaged as a result. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Café To Boost Refurbished City Hall
The multi-million pound Belfast City Hall refurbishment is to have an entirely new facility when it re-opens - a new coffee shop. Recalling Belfast's spinning and weaving heritage, the new coffee shop will be called The Bobbin and will be open to customers when the City Hall itself re-opens at the beginning of October.

Meat Cleaver Robber Sought
A female shop assistant has been threatened with a meat cleaver during a robbery in west Belfast. A man carrying a cleaver entered an off-licence on the Springfield Road at about 4pm on Tuesday and demanded cash from the till - escaping with an undisclosed sum of money. The woman was unhurt but said to be badly shaken.

Shop assistants threatened at gunpoint
Police are appealing for information after two shop assistants were threatened by armed men in south Belfast last night. The men entered the shop on the Upper Malone Road at around 8.30pm and threatened staff with a handgun and knife. One of those threatened was a 16-year-old female.

New Jobs Announced In Belfast International Airport Expansion
Up to 70 new jobs are to be created at Belfast International Airport as part of a £2.5 million expansion announced by SSP, an operator of food and beverage outlets. It is understood that most of the new, full and part-time jobs, will be at existing airside outlets.
