Counterfeit goods seized in Jonesborough

A quantity of counterfeit goods have been seized during what police described as a "planned search" in the Jonesborough area of Co Armagh.

The search on Sunday morning December 11, uncovered £40,000 worth of counterfeit drink - mainly vodkas - cigarettes, DVDs and training shoes.

Police said that they had also taken samples of clothing suspected to be counterfeit for further examination. Materials seized included items abandoned at the outset of the police operation. Other items seized included generators and some BB guns that had been offered for sale.

A police spokesperson said that the search ended at lunchtime, though police maintained a presence in the general area until around 3pm.

The police conducted the searches in the village and its outskirts on public roads as part of a wider strategy to combat serious crime and organized crime across Northern Ireland and disrupt criminal enterprises.

Two arrests were made during the operation.

Police, whilst in the area, also patrolled the enclosed area known as the "Jonesborough market," and while a small number of items were seized, police said that they believed the vast majority of activity noted was "fully legal".
