Dublin bomb linked to Continuity IRA
Gardai are linking the discovery of a bomb in a car on the Dublin M50 motorway to the Continuity IRA.
The device was discovered when a vehicle was stopped and searched by police near to the West Link Toll Plaza at 10pm on Thursday evening.
The driver apparently jumped out of the car and told Gardai that there was a primed bomb in the vehicle.
An Army bomb disposal team carried out a controlled explosion. The device was later confirmed to be a lunchbox type bomb.
Gardai said that a 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and that a 56-year-old man had been arrested in a subsequent operation.
Part of the M50 was closed for four hours while a operation to examine and deal with the device in the vehicle was in progress.
