The Queen arrives in NI for one-day visit

Her Majesty The Queen has arrived in Northern Ireland on Thursday for a one-day visit.

Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, Her Majesty will undertake a series of engagements throughout the day, the first of which saw the Royal couple arrive at Belfast Central Mission.

They arrived in the province on Wednesday evening and stayed overnight at Hillsborough Castle.

The last visit to Northern Ireland by the Queen was in February 2003. During that visit the Queen unveiled a plaque to commemorate the opening of the Laganside Courts complex and visited the £45 million Halifax Bank of Scotland’s Retail Contact Centre in south Belfast.

Prince Philip was in Northern Ireland last month in relation to the work of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
