NI computer company takes national title
A locally owned IT company has been named as the winner of the Parcelforce Worldwide UK Small Business of the Year Award 2005.
Nitec Solutions, who represented Northern Ireland as regional winners, were handed the overall UK award and a first prize of £25,000 at a lavish ceremony in the East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf, London on Nov 30th.
The competition, in its thirteenth year, is the largest of its kind in the country and attracted over 2,000 entries from across the UK so it is boon
Nigel Mulholland and Peter McMahon, who set up the Antrim-based company seven years ago, in a statement, expressed their delight at the news: “The small-to-medium business sector is at the heart of everything we do and we fully appreciate the opportunities this award will give us.
"Winning the regional award was an incredible morale boost for the whole business and the team but to go on and take the overall UK award against such stiff competition really is amazing for us. It will no doubt enhance our reputation in the community and open doors to further business success”.
Parcelforce Worldwide Managing Director Vanessa Leeson said: “This year’s entrants encapsulate the innovation, vibrancy and high standards of the small business community. They are the engine room of the UK economy and I hope the awards will encourage others and provide a boost to the whole sector”.
Industry Minister Alun Michael said: “The Parcelforce Worldwide awards recognise some of the most passionate, creative and enterprising small businesses, and I wholeheartedly congratulate all of this year’s finalists and the overall winner, Nitec Solutions Ltd.
“The success of small businesses is essential for the UK economy, helping to create more jobs, wealth and prosperity. These awards provide a great showcase for small businesses and will hopefully encourage more people to turn their ideas into a business success."
