Hospital waiting lists fall
Waiting list figures released today show the number of patients waiting over 12 months has fallen by more than 38% in the last quarter.
The latest waiting list figures revealed that the number of patients waiting over 12 months for the same treatment has decreased by 1,533 over the quarter and stands at 2,434. This is a reduction of 3,934 compared to the same quarter last year.
Minister Shaun Woodward said the fall in figures "fully highlights that health reforms are now having real effect".
"In July I announced that I would reduce Northern Ireland's unacceptable waiting times," he said.
"These most recent figures, which cover the first quarter following my announcement, show our reforms are having a huge impact. I very much welcome the progress that has been made."
Outlining his commitment to ensure no-one is waiting longer than 12 months by March 2006, the Minister said: "We have more to do. While I welcome this reduction, it is a first step to ensuring patients here no longer wait unacceptable times for treatment. Progress must now be sustained."
