Device found at Belfast City Hall

Belfast City Hall was evacuated at lunchtime today as Army technical officers were called in to deal with what was described as a "crude but viable" device.

The area has since been reopened following a controlled explosion.

Police said that a number of items had been removed for forensic examination.

In Londonderry a security alert at Boating House lane closed part of Queen's Quay and Strand Road.

Shops restaurants and part of the North West Institute were evacuated following a telephoned bomb warning.

Police said that the roads have now reopened.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Coleraine Residents Evacuated Amid Security Alert
A number of residents in Coleraine have been evacuated from their homes due to an overnight security alert. Police seized a suspicious object for examination during the operation on the Drumtarsey Road. The route was closed in both directions following reports of the object on Thursday evening, 02 August.

Two Arrested After 'Suspicious Activity'
Two men have been arrested by police following reports of suspicious activity in the North Circular Road area of Belfast. Police attended the scene and arrested two males on suspicion of burglary and possession of class A and B drugs. No further information is available.
