Multi-million boost for Carbon Trust
Local businesses are set to get additional help in cutting their energy bills with the announcement of £3.6 million in funding for the Carbon Trust.
The Carbon Trust works with businesses to reduce harmful carbon dioxide emissions through energy efficiency measures, thereby reducing the cost of energy to businesses.
Enterprise Minister, Angela Smith announced the additional funding, provided jointly by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) and Invest NI, at a meeting with the Carbon Trust today.
Speaking at the launch the Minister said: "Improving energy efficiency is vital on two fronts - as an integral element of our drive to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and in reducing overall energy costs to business. It is an important part of Government's vision for sustainable energy.
"Today's announcement means that the Carbon Trust's Energy Efficiency Loan Fund will be increased to £2.8 million. Local companies can apply for interest free loans of between £5,000 and £200,000 from the Carbon Trust to help them invest in energy saving equipment. This is a clear message that government is committed to helping businesses implement energy saving measures that can reduce costs and will help minimise their impact on the environment."
The Carbon Trust, funded through the climate change levy receipts, is an independent company set up by Government to help the UK meet its climate change obligations.
