Business centre to create 90 jobs in Strabane
Strabane Enterprise Agency has confirmed plans to create 90 jobs at its recently constructed workspace units for new and expanding businesses.
The project, funded by the Peace II Programme through the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) and the International Fund for Ireland, is one of 30 projects across Northern Ireland set up to create new jobs in deprived areas, by providing flexible workspace units for new and expanding businesses.
Speaking in Strabane, NIO Minister Angela Smith said: "This project exemplifies the important contribution that Peace II funding is making to the economic revitalisation of disadvantaged communities.
"It underpins one of my Department's core aims to help create successful indigenous enterprises that will provide both economic wealth and confidence within communities and encourage entrepreneurship.
International Fund for Ireland Board member Helen Kirkpatrick said: "Creating the conditions within which business opportunities can flourish has been a key area of activity for the Fund.
"We are very pleased, therefore, to have been able to support Strabane Enterprise Agency in providing this much needed additional workspace to accommodate new and expanding businesses which will bring further social and economic benefits to the Strabane District Council area."
After launching the project, the Minister visited Omagh and met with District Council members to discuss economic development and education.
SEA Ltd was established in 1983 as the local enterprise agency for the Strabane area. A non-profit making organisation, the agency aims to encourage the formation and growth of small and medium sized businesses thereby creating an innovative enterprise climate in the Strabane District.
