Homeowners warned of bogus maintenance calls
Police in North Belfast have urged homeowners to be vigilant following a number of complaints with regard to people calling at houses in the area and offering to carry out general home maintenance.
Money is usually asked for with the emphasis on cash payment, but once the cash is paid over, little or any of the work agreed upon is actually carried out.
Police said they were keen to reinforce the message to all homeowners that they should be aware of this type of approach.
"Our advice is - if you have a job that requires work, contact a reputable firm or a person recommended by a friend or relative and request an estimate of costs before agreeing that the work should be undertaken," a police spokesperson said.
"Crime Prevention advice can be sought from a local police station."
