Two men injured in paramilitary-style shootings

Detectives in Newtownards are investigating two separate paramilitary-style shooting incidents in Co Down on Thursday.

In the first incident, a 33-year-old man was stopped by two masked men and shot in the lower left leg while running in the vicinity of Canal Row, Newtownards, shortly before 8.15pm.

His attackers were both between 5ft 11 and 6ft tall of heavy build and dressed in dark coloured clothing. They are believed to have headed off after the attack towards Comber Road.

In the second incident, a 30-year-old man suffered one gun shot wound to his left leg and was struck on the head during a shooting incident that occurred at Rectory Park, Kircubben. This incident was reported to police just after 10pm.

In both cases, the victims were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.

Couple Assaulted In Belfast Robbery
A couple have been assaulted by three men at their home in East Belfast. The men forced their way into the property on the Upper Newtownards Road on Sunday just after 10.30pm. The pair were tied up and attacked in the incident. The attackers got away with a large amount of jewellery.

Man Escapes Injury In Newtownards Shooting
A man has escaped injury after shots were fired at a house in Newtownards. A property in the Upper Greenwell Street area was targeted in the early hours of Friday morning, 13 September. While no injuries were reported, damage was caused to a downstairs window and the inside of the property.

Paramilitary link to man killed in Newtownards shooting
The man who was shot dead by a gunman in Newtownards this morning was reportedly a member of a loyalist paramilitary group. A caller using a recognised codeword claimed that the man was a senior figure in the Loyalist Volunteer Force. The victim was sitting in a car outside Regent House Grammar School on the Circular Road at around 11.
