Policewoman suffers fractured skull in brick attack

A policewoman has suffered a suspected fractured skull following an attack in north Belfast on Wednesday.

The officer, along with two colleagues, was responding to a car accident on the Ligoniel Road at around 8.45pm when a brick was thrown from behind a nearby wall striking the woman.

PSNI Inspector Gavin Kirkpatrick described the attack as "disgraceful" and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Elsewhere in north Belfast, a man has been stabbed during an incident off the Shankill Road.

The victim sustained stomach injuries after being attacked by up to four men in the Peters Hill area at about 11pm.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police have said the attack may have been sectarian and have appealed for anyone with information to contact on 028 9065 0222.
