NIE campaigns aims to promote electricity work safety

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) today launched a new campaign aimed at promoting safe working practices in the vicinity of electricity equipment.

The 'Stick with Safety' campaign was launched as European Health and Safety Week (24th - 28th October) highlights safe working practices for the contracting, building and farming communities.

NIE hopes raising awareness of site safety procedures will improve standards of health and safety.

NIE Safety and Risk Manager Roy Coulter said contractors must follow correct safety procedures at all times to keep everyone working on site safe.

"Every contractor must familiarise himself with all services, electrical, gas, water and telecommunications equipment present at, or adjacent to, a work location," he said. Contractors should contact NIE on 08457 643 643 in good time requesting advice or information about electrical equipment in the vicinity of their work."

NIE is currently offering contractors a wide range of advice and assistance to help them avoid overhead and underground cables including advice leaflets, videos and maps and diagrams of the underground electricity network.
