Government unveils ten-year environment plan
The Government has unveiled for a ten-year plan aimed at improving the environment across Northern Ireland.
Environment Minister Jeff Rooker launched the Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) ten year strategy at the 'Environment NI - A Vision for the Future' two-day conference in Belfast.
He told the 345 delegates that the news strategy outlines EHS' vision for Northern Ireland's environment, supported by clear targets.
Environmental Heritage Agency chief executive Richard Rogers said he hoped that the 10-year strategy would mean "our environment will be both well protected and highly valued by the whole community".
"It is vital we succeed, for the sake of the whole community and for future generations of people in Northern Ireland," he added.
The Minister also confirmed a consultation on a new Waste Management Strategy. The new Strategy consultation period will end on 20 January 2006.

Minister Signs 'Tape-Cutting' Green Deal
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has signed a new deal with Dungannon-based agri-food companies Linden Foods Ltd and Linergy Ltd that will seek to cut red tape in return for a reduction in carbon emissions. The 'Prosperity Agreement' will see the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) work to reduce red tape for the two firms.
