Former YMCA building gets £1.4m makeover
A landmark building at Mountpottinger in east Belfast has been given a new life thanks to a £1.4 million transformation.
Social Development Minister David Hanson today visited the former YMCA building on the Albertbridge Road to see at first hand the result of significant public and private sector investment at work.
The Minister said: "This development is a fine example of government and the private sector working together to bring economic regeneration to an area of greatest need.
"This development of this wonderful landmark building demonstrates growing confidence in the area. The redevelopment of this once-neglected property brings a fine building back into beneficial commercial use creating the opportunity for over 50 new jobs in a very needy area."
The refurbishment has provided more than 2,600 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and more than 8,000 square feet of office space on the upper floors. In addition to the environmental improvement for Mountpottinger, the project has the potential to create more than 50 jobs in this "high priority" area.
In addition to the £1 million private sector investment, the Department for Social Development's Belfast Regeneration Office provided an Urban Development Grant of £380,000 and the Environment and Heritage Service also contributed £83,725 towards retaining this listed building.

Art Deco Building To Be Restored To Former Glory
The former Bank of Ireland building on Larne’s Main Street is to be restored to its former glory, thanks to funding from the Department for Social Development (DSD). DSD has awarded the project a grant of £256,000 under its pilot Urban Development Grant programme.

Open Night On Landlord Regulations
People who rent out their properties will have to provide details for a Northern Ireland register for the first time, under new government plans just proposed. There's an event being organised tonight to detail the scheme as part of an education programme to ensure landlords and tenants are aware of their respective rights and responsibilities.

An historic Georgian terrace on Belfast's Ormeau Road has a new life as an office block. The building, opposite the former North of Ireland cricket grounds, was originally private housing but was later headquarters for the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA) before suffering from vandalism and fire damage.
