Van driver assaulted during hijacking
Detectives in Belfast have appealed for information after a 45-year-old man was assaulted and his vehicle hijacked on Friday.
The man was sitting in heavy traffic in his white Mercedes van at Stockman’s lane between 3.30pm and 3.45pm, when a man, described as being in his early 30’s, six feet in height and well built, opened the front passenger door and struck him on the side of the head. The man then ordered the victim to drive on to Kennedy Way and a nearby Industrial estate where they were met by a second male who opened the driver’s door, dragging the man out of his car. The victim was then bundled into the back of another vehicle and had his head covered.
He was then driven for around an hour and a half before he was pulled out of the car at the Ivy Hill Road/Moneyglass junction in the Derriaghy, Milltown area of Lisburn.
The man was then ordered to walk for ten minutes however he managed to flag down a passing motorist who drove him to Lisburn Police Station.
The victim had a cut and swelling to the left side of his head, above the eye, and was severely shocked as a result of the ordeal.
The Mercedes had a substantial amount of “Snap-on” branded tools on board and a laptop computer and a number of personal items were also taken.
Detectives in south Belfast have appealed for anyone who has any information about this incident or anyone who is offered “Snap-on” tools in suspicious circumstances to contact them on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
