KFC fined £12,000 for selling undercooked chicken

A Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurant has been fined £12,000 after being found guilty of serving undercooked chicken in east Belfast.

The prosecution against Herbel Restaurants Limited, trading as KFC, was taken by Belfast City Council after a customer made a complaint that he had purchased an original recipe chicken piece which he alleged to be undercooked. Subsequent analysis of the chicken revealed that the poultry produce had not been adequately cooked.

During Tuesday's case at Belfast Magistrates Court it was also revealed that the company has had a history of similar offences relating to public health.

Including this case, seven successful prosecutions have been taken against Herbel Restaurants by district councils in Northern Ireland, resulting in fines totalling £31,500 since 1999.
