Youths behind spate of attempted robberies
Police in South Belfast are appealing for information following a spate of attempted robberies across the city on Tuesday evening.
Shortly before 7pm police received a report that a car had been stolen from Donegall Street in the city centre.
The vehicle, a red Hyundai Lantra, was spotted at an off licence on the Ormeau Road shortly after 9.15pm. Three youths entered the premises, one armed with a screwdriver, and an attempt was made to snatch money from a till. An employee at the premises suffered a minor hand wound during the incident but the youths fled empty handed.
The car and its occupants were then sighted around 15 minutes later at an off licence in Agincourt Avenue. Three male youths entered an off licence one was armed with a wheel brace. Again they left empty handed.
Shortly before 10pm police believe the same youths travelled to a 24-hour supermarket on the Church Road in Newtownabbey. At least two males entered the store and attempted to snatch cash from an employee working at the till.
The youths were all described as in their late teens to early twenties and wearing tracksuits and baseball caps.
Anyone who witnessed any of the incidents or who has knowledge of the whereabouts of the red Hyundai vehicle is asked to contact police at Musgrave Street or Newtownabbey on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
