Police appeal over murder of doorman

Detectives investigating the murder of a doorman at the Chimney Corner Hotel last September have re-issued an appeal for information.

Stephen Nelson, 55, who had worked at the hotel for several years, was assaulted and seriously injured on September 19, 2004. In a coma since the attack, Mr Nelson died from his injuries on March 18 this year.

The PSNI's Crime Operations Dept has been conducting a murder enquiry.

Police investigating the murder are appealing for anyone who attended the Chimney Corner Nightclub on 18th to 19th September 2004 to come forward and speak with police, if they have not already done so.

Police have especially appealed for anyone including taxi drivers who would have been waiting at the front of the premises around 2.30am on the 19th September 2004 to make contact with the investigation team.

Police believe that up to ten men were involved in the assault on Mr Nelson.

Anyone who can assist with the murder investigation is asked to contact the Murder Incident Room on 02890 700317 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A £5000 reward has been offered independently for information, which will lead to a murder conviction.
