FBI among attendees at PSNI counter terrorism programme

A major counter terrorism programme held in Belfast this week was attended by some of the world's leading counter terrorism specialists, police said today.

Hosted by the PSNI Police College in Belfast, senior police officers from America, Canada, the UK and Ireland took part in the 'Leadership in Counter Terrorism' (LinCT) programme.

The programme, which finishes today, addresses policy development, resource assignment, counter terrorism and intelligence matters. It has been developed by the PSNI Police College in partnership with the Scottish Police College and the FBI Academy.

Superintendent Gary Gracey, Head of Leadership Development in the Police Service of Northern Ireland said: "This programme, specialising in counter terrorism, is designed to meet the ever-changing demands of policing these threats. A worldwide forum coming together to learn together and from each other is truly the best way to ensure that we are prepared to deal with the global threat of terror and crime.

David S. Corderman, Chief of Leadership Development at the FBI Academy, added; "This programme is unique in its approach to the issue of global counter terrorism and the only one of its nature available. It provides the opportunity to create a truly global network in the counter terrorist field, an opportunity that had to be taken post 9/11."

The aim of the programme is to develop the skills and perspectives required to provide leadership to organisations and communities to minimise the fear, the threat and to deal with chaos, confusion and destruction which can result from terrorism and global crime.
