Derry roads to get £5.6m investment
Nearly £6 million is to be invested on Londonderry's roads, it was announced today.
Roads Service Manager, Dr Andrew Murray, told Derry City Council that the £5.6 million investment was "indicative of the substantial capital investment throughout Northern Ireland", as he delivered the Roads Service Annual Report to the Council.
The schemes being taken forward include the widening to four through traffic lanes of Glendermott Road between Dales Corner and Rossdowney Road and the widening and realignment of part of Woodside Road, from Corrody Road towards the city.
"Most road users appreciate that making this sort of improvement cannot be done without some disruption to traffic," Dr Murray said. "However, Roads Service has made every effort to keep disruption to a minimum by completing as many schemes as possible during the summer months, when there is generally less traffic and contractors can take advantage of daylight hours and, where possible, by avoiding peak traffic times."
During today's announcement, Dr Murray also took the opportunity to highlight some of the schemes that were completed in 2004/05.
These included resurfacing schemes at Foyle Road, Foreglen Road, Victoria Road, Maydown Road and Cumber Road.
Extensive traffic calming schemes were also carried out in the Galliagh and Waterside Estates while pelican crossings were installed on Culmore Road, Abercorn Road and Creggan Road.
