Attempt made to hijack a car in Belfast

Police at Musgrave Street are appealing for information following an attempted hijacking in Belfast in the early hours of Sunday.

Shortly before 12.30am a motorist was sitting in his silver coloured Audi A6 car at Hope Street when two males, one of whom was armed with a handgun, opened the car door and attempted to pull him from the vehicle.

A scuffle ensued during which the motorist sustained cuts and bruises to his head and face. Both attackers then ran off from the scene.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the Hope Street area and who may have witnessed Sunday's incident to contact them on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Last week in a similar incident, a woman was left in shock after she was dragged from her car in west Belfast.

The victim was in a silver Ford Focus car at the Westwood shopping centre when she was approached by thieves armed with a handgun.

They then proceeded to drag her by the hair from the vehicle before making off in the direction of the M1 motorway.
