Search on for Giant’s Causeway visitors’ centre designer
An international competition to appoint an exhibition and interpretative designer to design the interior of the planned new Visitors’ Centre at the Giant’s Causeway was launched today.
The competition follows an earlier international competition to appoint an architect for the building which attracted unprecedented interest with just over 200 firms submitting plans.
The successful interpretative designer will be expected to capture the spirit of the Giant’s Causeway and the surrounding environment, as well as the associated folklore, factual historical and cultural connections. They will also be required to collaborate with the winning architect to deliver an integrated design solution for the building.
The entries for the architectural competition are currently being assessed by an international panel of experts under the auspices of the Union of International Architects. It is anticipated the winning architect will be announced this autumn and they will be involved in the selection of the interpretative designer to ensure the form and function of the new facilities are developed in tandem.
The interpretive competition will be run under European Union (EU) Public Procurement Regulations and in line with Royal Institute of British Architects guidelines with the name of the winning designer to be announced later this year.
It is intended that the competition will be advertised in the Official Journal of the EU and local newspapers later this week.
