Mowlam still ‘critical’ is moved to hospice
Former Northern Ireland Secretary of State Mo Mowlam has been moved from hospital to a hospice in Kent to be closer to her family.
The critically ill ex-minister was admitted to King's College Hospital two week’s ago, but has since been moved to Pilgrim Hospice in Canterbury.
Hospital officials have declined to say whether her illness is connected to a previous benign brain tumour, however her condition remains "critical but stable".
The former Labour MP was born in Watford but grew up in Coventry, attending the Coundon Court Comprehensive school, and then studied at the Universities of Durham and Iowa.
She became the Labour MP for Redcar in 1987, becoming opposition spokesperson on Northern Ireland in that year.
Since then she held a variety of posts, and became Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in 1994.
Later in 2000 she announced her intention to retire from Parliament, relinquishing her seat at the 2001 election.
