Flats damaged in overnight pipe bomb attacks

A number of flats have been damaged in overnight pipe bomb attacks in Co Antrim.

In the first incident devices were thrown at the front doors of two flats in Rathcoole Drive, Newtownabbey just after 10pm.

A short time later another device exploded at a ground floor flat in Carnbrook Drive, Antrim, causing damage to a bedroom.

No one was injured in either incident and police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Elsewhere, two men have been injured in a paramilitary-style attack in Co Down.

The men were walking along the Ballyreagh Road in Newtownards when they were approached by three men and shot.

The attack is thought to have occurred shortly before 10.30pm on Thursday and detectives have again appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Meanwhile, a man has been treated for minor burn injuries following an arson attack in Bangor.

It is believed petrol was set alight after a window in an upstairs flat at Lisadell Place was smashed.

Police have urged witnesses to contact them after reports of two men standing outside the property shortly beforehand.
